(Kyle Green\/Pool\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>(NEW YORK) &#8212; Bryan Kohberger, who pleaded guilty last year to the\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">University of Idaho quadruple murders<\/span>,\u00a0has been granted a new hearing\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">in his bid to take back his guilty plea,\u00a0<\/span>according to court filings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">His new evidentiary hearing has been set for June 17, 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In 2022, Kohberger was arrested for the stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students &#8212; roommates Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen and Xana Kernodle, and\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">Kernodle&#8217;s boyfriend, Ethan Chapin<\/span>\u00a0&#8212; at the girls&#8217; off-campus house.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In July 2025, weeks before his trial was set to start,\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">Kohberger pleaded guilty to all counts<\/span>. As part of the plea deal, the death penalty was taken off the table.\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">Kohberger was given four consecutive life sentences<\/span>\u00a0for four first-degree murder counts as well as 10 years for the burglary count.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Last month, Kohberger reversed course,<span class=\"s1\">\u00a0filing a petition for post-conviction relief.\u00a0<\/span>Without offering new evidence,\u00a0Kohberger &#8212; a criminology student at Washington State University at the time of the murders &#8212;\u00a0claimed he was lied to and pressured to falsely confess, and that there was information withheld that could have potentially helped his case.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em>This is a developing story.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2026, ABC Audio.
