Written and executive produced by Mike Flanagan, the show\u2019s first season debuted Oct. 7 as a modern retelling of Stephen King\u2019s 1974 novel of the same name.<\/p>\n<p>The series follows outcast high\u2011schooler Carrie White, played by Summer H. Howell, who\u2019s isolated by her controlling mother, portrayed by Samantha Sloyan, and faces incessant bullying at her new school. The coming-of-age drama ends with a dramatic prom scene, involving prom court, pigs&#8217; blood and telekinesis.<\/p>\n<p>Along with Howell and Sloyan, the season\u00a01 ensemble included <em>Resident Evil<\/em>\u2019s Siena Agudong, <em>Fire Country<\/em>\u2019s Alison Thornton and <em>My Life with the Walter Boys<\/em>\u2019 Joel Oulette.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White\u2019s story,\u201d Flanagan said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/press.amazonmgmstudios.com\/us\/en\/press-release\/icarriei-has-a-killer-debut-prime-video-announces-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press release<\/a>. \u201cFrom the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I\u2019m incredibly grateful for Stephen\u2019s trust and support in exploring what comes next.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although the second season is expanding beyond its source material, King will continue to work on the show as an executive producer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t wait for audiences to get to see what\u2019s down the road for Carrie White,\u201d King shared. \u201cMike Flanagan and I are excited about what comes next.
