East of Eden<\/em> has its first full-length trailer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The new limited series adaptation of John Steinbeck\u2019s classic novel stars Florence Pugh as Cathy Ames, whose life becomes “intertwined with the lives of generations of men from the Trask family \u2014 notably those of Adam (Christopher Abbott) and Charles (Mike Faist).\u201d<\/p>\n

Throughout the trailer we hear Cathy\u2019s narration as she muses on the evils of the world. \u201cEvil is not always apparent at first glance,\u201d she says. \u201cIt can come cloaked in goodness, or beauty, or love. The heart of our oldest stories.\u201d<\/p>\n

We see Adam immediately taken with Cathy, but his brother Charles is wary. \u201cA girl like that doesn\u2019t just fall out of the sky,\u201d Charles warns. \u201cShe\u2019s going to tear you to pieces, and I don\u2019t want to watch it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The story later follows Cathy and Adam\u2019s twin boys, Cal Trask, played by Joseph Zada, and Aron Trask, played by Joe Anders.<\/p>\n

The seven-episode series is directed by Zoe Kazan, the granddaughter of director Elia Kazan, who previously adapted the novel into a 1955 film that launched the career of James Dean.<\/p>\n

East of Eden<\/em> debuts on Netflix Oct. 1.<\/p>\n
